New Project Funded by Global Water Futures
MSc Position at University of Waterloo
We invite applications for a potential MSc student to participate in a research project in the Ecohydrology Research Group starting September, 2018. The goal of this project is to advance the high-resolution measurements of oxygen (O2) in soil and sediments under varying environmental conditions to provide insight into the biogeochemical functioning of natural environments, ranging from terrestrial to aquatic settings. The main tasks of the MSc student will be conducting laboratory and field experiments. The MSc student will focus on the field validation and implementation of an in-house developed Multi Fiber Optode (MuFO) microsensor system to measure in real-time the dissolved O2 concentrations in soils and sediments at selected field sites, including riparian areas and hyporheic zones. The student will be guided by Drs. Philippe Van Cappellen and Fereidoun Rezanezhad, and collaborators from multiple universities involved in this project.
Applicant must have specialization in biogeochemistry, hydrology, soil science, Environmental Engineering or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated skills and experience in experimental work in biogeochemistry and environmental sciences.
For further information regarding this position, or to submit an application, please contact Dr. Fereidoun Rezanezhad (firstname.lastname@example.org). In your application email, please include “GWF-Sensor_yourname” in the subject line and attach a single PDF file that contains:
