PhD and PDF Opportunities in X-ray Imaging of Diffusion: Radioactive Waste Management
Earth & Environmental Sciences, University of Ottawa
Graduate research opportunities are available at the Ph.D. or PDF level for candidates interested in geoscience applications of X-ray absorption spectrometry, digital image acquisition, and image analysis. The research focuses on advancement in the understanding of reactive solute transport processes in a variety of low-permeability igneous and sedimentary rocks. The goal is to develop and apply X-ray spectrometric imaging techniques to monitor transport by diffusion and quantify processes with reactive-transport models.
Candidates will conduct research in a team environment in the new Advanced Research Complex that hosts the G.G. Hatch Isotope Lab, the A.E. Lalonde Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Lab and a variety of other state-of-the-art research facilities.
Applicants should have a strong background in geoscience with interest in aqueous geochemistry and hydrogeology. Experience with digital image acquisition, programming to control instrumentation, and image analysis with ImageJ would be valuable.
