ABOUT THE POSITION
The Faculty of Science at the University of Windsor is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to lead a novel community/citizen science initiative bridging climate change, ecohydrology, and the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) in STEM. The candidate will be engaged in the implementation of a new program to distribute and collect climate data across the Windsor-Essex region of southwestern Ontario, Canada. The project aims to exploit the full potential of researchers and citizen scientists working collaboratively, including extending and up-scaling existing databases into accessible information assets that promote action on the Great Lakes management challenges, developing a sustainable program for training of citizen science leaders that integrates into existing education programs, developing the next-generation of data collection tools and software, and solving challenges related to data validation and optimally deploying sensor infrastructure. Spanning urban to agricultural, including greenhouse environments, this position offers a unique opportunity to work with experts and community members to inform locally made solutions to combating climate change and implement novel educational programming.
The successful candidate will have expertise across dimensions including, but not limited to, ecosystem and/or hydrological sciences, software engineering, geospatial analysis, educational research and/or outreach experience.

- PhD in Geography, Environmental Science, Ecology or STEM education research (or a related degree)
- Proficiency with one or more skills related to community science/citizen science data platforms or programs including visualization and geospatial software.
- Community engagement experience related to citizen science efforts/li>
- Experience with knowledge mobilization, outreach, or science communication/li>
- Experience working with local communities, farmers, K-12 schools and/or the general public/li>
- Experience with mixed methods, including conducting interviews and focus groups, creating surveys, and performing critical discourse analysis/li>
- Experience with geospatial technologies (e.g., location aware apps, unmanned aerial vehicles, time-lapse cameras, geoweb, low-cost sensors, and internet of things)/li>
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a research team, mentor student researchers, and take the lead in organizing collaborative work/li>
- Strong organizational, project management, and oral and written communication skills
Deadline: May 3rd, 2021, or until a suitable candidate is found
Start date: Late May – Early June 2021 (flexible)
Term: 1 year with possibility of extension.
