Solid Earth Best Student Awards

This award was started in 2010, and is based on student presentations given at the annual meeting. No extended abstract is required. It consists of a $750 prize and a commemorative plaque.

The winner for 2022 is Michael King from the University of Newfoundland for "Reconstructing the southern North Atlantic Ocean back through time using deformable plate tectonic models", presented at the 2022 joint (virtual) CMOS-CGU-ESC conference. Congratulations Michael!

Student Conferences

The CGU-SES offers sponsorship support of up to $250 to regional Canadian graduate student scientific meetings with geophysical content. Requests should be sent by meeting organizers to the Solid Earth Secretary (Claire Currie) and these will be assessed by the criteria of geophysical content and the possibility of generating matching funds for the meeting from other sources.
